An outback drug syndicate has been smashed, with nine people charged for allegedly supplying cannabis to remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.

The group allegedly supplied more than 21kg of the drug in the Barkly region, making more than $500,000 in profit in a year, a police spokesman said on Thursday.

Six men and three women aged between 26 and 62 were arrested in Tennant Creek, 510km north of Alice Springs, on Wednesday.

All were charged with one count each of supplying commercial cannabis, possessing commercial cannabis and possessing tainted property.

Detective Sergeant Marek Hutchinson-Goncz said the arrests would have a significant impact on the supply of drugs across the Barkly region.

"We will continue to actively pursue those who choose to profit off of vulnerable members in our communities," he said.

The group was remanded in custody to appear in the NT Local Court in Alice Springs.
